Missing Link Audio Afterburner Overdrive Pedal

Afterburner Overdrive! The High‑Octane Gibbons Era in a Box

Step into the futuristic, high‑gloss world of ZZ Top’s Afterburner and Recycler albums. The Afterburner Overdrive is purpose‑built to capture Gibbons’ unmistakable mid‑’80s to early‑’90s guitar sound—tight, saturated, harmonically rich, and loaded with that signature Texas swagger.

This pedal isn’t a clone of any single circuit. It’s a custom‑engineered overdrive designed to recreate the polished, high‑gain vocal harmonic response that defined Gibbons’ most modern, studio‑crafted tones.

Dialed‑In Afterburner & Recycler Tones

The Afterburner and Recycler era tones were unique: smooth, compressed, and packed with harmonic lift that made pinch harmonics explode off the fretboard. The Afterburner Overdrive nails that feel with a refined clipping stage inspired by germanium warmth—baked directly into the circuit for seamless, always‑on harmonic behavior.

No switches. No modes. Just the exact character you expect from this era, ready the moment you stomp on it.

The Afterburner Overdrive delivers:

• Tight, controlled low end for punchy, percussive rhythm work

• Smooth, saturated mids that cut through dense mixes

• Harmonic bloom that makes every pinch and squeal jump out

• Studio‑grade clarity even at higher gain settings

The Afterburner Overdrive is voiced to capture the swampy, saturated grind of “My Head’s in Mississippi,” the album’s biggest hit and a perfect example of that thick, harmonically rich guitar tone. No racks, no studio tricks, no guesswork. Just pure, high‑octane Texas tone with that modern edge.
