Details

Here at The Guitar Store Southampton we have a Gibson Les Paul Recording Circa 1970/72 in Walnut in Hard Case.

Condition:

  •  - Guitar is in good condition for its age and the fact that it has been a 'gigging' guitar - with no breaks or major dings / dents
  •  - All parts appear original with the exception of the bridge and strap buttons
  •  - Tip of selector switch is missing
  •  - The back looks like it has been re-finished at some point
  •  - It's had a re-fret done and some point - it is almost 50 years old
  •  - Shows some signs of filler on the fretboard - again this is a guitar that has ben played for almost 50 years
  •  - Edge broken off the control plate by the input socket
  •  - No scratch plate
  •  - Lots of life left in the frets
  •  - It looks like at some point in its life, the neck position pickup cavity was routed out for a humbucker - see image showing the corner of the cavity - a pickguard would cover it.
  •  - Case is a genuine Gibson case but non-original to the guitar
  •  - Serial No: 161130 - which looks to have sunk into the headstock
  •  - The guitar weighs 4.29kg

This guitar comes setup to your requirements by our own in store guitar tech.

This has only come on the market as the original owner (local gigging musician passed away). This is a commission sale therefore we cannot accept part exchanges or finance - any finance application started on-line for this guitar will unfortunately be cancelled.

Please see the photographs as they form part of the description. We can supply more detailed or specific photographs on request.

Les Paul Recording

A major part of Les Paul’s original vision for the solidbody electric guitar was to incorporate features crucial to studio musicians, and that dream was realized in the famed Les Paul Recording Model of the 1970s. The new Les Paul Recording guitar from Gibson USA—hand-crafted, American-made, and impressively affordable—pays tribute to Les’s original concept while adding key updates for superior sound and performance.

The Les Paul Recording couples Gibson’s legendary tone and playability with the very best of today’s electronics to create a dream instrument for studio guitarists. Two versatile new pickups route through a premium, industry-standard Jensen audio transformer for a balanced low-impedance output that can go direct into pro mixers or computer audio interfaces. Or, select the High-Z out for traditional guitar amps. “Fat Tap” coil splitting on each pickup, a phase-reverse switch, and ground lift switch for the Low-Z output dramatically extend the Les Paul Recording’s versatility.

Select Grade

A mahogany and a Grade-A rosewood fingerboard, with frets over binding for extended playing surface, form an unbeatable foundation; Grover™ kidney-button tuners, a Tune-o-matic bridge, and a classic Bigsby™ B-7 vibrato tailpiece provide accurate tuning with serious sustain. The high-gloss natural nitrocellulose lacquer finish lets the wood’s natural beauty shine through, while a multi-ply bound body and headstock, “Custom” style split-diamond headstock inlay, and small pearloid block fingerboard inlays complete this first-class musical instrument.

Body and Neck

The Les Paul Recording is crafted in the image of the original Les Paul Standard, with a solid mahogany back (featuring traditional weight relief for enhanced resonance and a lighter strapped-on feel) and a carved Grade-AA figured maple top. It has a glued-in mahogany neck with a ’60s Slim Taper™ profile, rosewood fingerboard with 22 cryogenic-treated frets for long life, and traditional trapezoid inlays.

Pickups and Electronics

A pair of brand new pickups pay tribute to the originals, but with improved tone and performance. They offer a broad frequency response and hum-free performance, with a switchable “Fat Tap” setting for thick single-coil tones. Additional switches provide reverse-phase and Low-Z ground lift options, and feed the traditional complement of independent volume and tone controls with a three-way selector switch. A high-quality Jensen audio transformer converts the signal to a balanced low-impedance output for direct-to-DAW recording, while a second, High-Z output jack accommodates traditional guitar amps.

Hardware

High-quality Grover™ kidney-button tuners join a chrome Tune-o-matic bridge. A multi-ply pickguard/switch plate, black top-hat knobs, multi-ply body and headstock binding, and a traditional black/white “bell” truss-rod cover engraved “Les Paul Recording” complete the package.
