The very first Dreadnought guitars (named after a class of World War I British battleships known as Dreadnoughts) were manufactured by Martin for the Oliver Ditson Company, a publishing firm based in Boston. The guitars weren’t sold with the Martin name on them, but were marketed in Boston and New York under the Oliver Ditson brand name, beginning in 1916. This current recreation embodies many of the elements of those guitars including the Oliver Ditson stamp an the inside backstrip and back of the headstock. Adirondack Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides. Golden Era style scalloped X bracing. Brazilian Rosewood headplate,backstrip, endpiece and binding. Mahogany modified Vee profile neck with Black Ebony fingerboard and pyramid bridge. Fossilised Ivory nut and saddle. 1 7/8" nut width and 25.4" scale length. Slotted headstock with brass Waverly tuners and small Ivoroid buttons. Tortoiseshell scratchplate. With special edition Martin hard case.
